Dorothy Marcella Massey, a cherished soul, transitioned into eternity on December 8, 2025, cradled by the love of her family in Independence, Missouri. Born in the heart of Tallassee, Alabama on May 28, 1961, she delighted in the simple joys of life, their bonds nurtured through laughter and warmth. She was a proud product of the local school district, where she began to cultivate a heart that would later envelop all who knew her, she had previously been employed by Ensis Factory.

Known for her boundless compassion, Dorothy was a loving daughter of the late Billie Howard, Sr., and Doris Thomas. Her kindness was a beacon in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to share her journey. On a fateful day, September 14, 1984, she joined hands with her soulmate, Marcus Massey, embarking together on a beautiful adventure filled with love and growth. This partnership blossomed into a family, welcoming five wonderful children: Quincy Thomas, Natasha Thomas, and Terrance Massey, Antonio Massey, and Shkiara Massey, whose lives she cherished and supported with unwavering devotion.

In a tapestry woven with the threads of family ties, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her dear sister, Audrey. Yet, the legacy of her spirit continues to shine brightly through those she leaves behind. Her beloved husband, Marcus, will carry forward the cherished memories of their years together, while Quincy, Natasha, Terrance, Antonio and Shkira honor their mother’s light in all that they do.

Dorothy's vibrant family also includes her brothers and sisters, Linda Crawford, Phyllis Howard, Billie Daniels, Cathy Ronoak, Rosetta Jackson, Billie Howard Jr., Angela Howard, George Howard, Ina Howard, Jessica Howard, and Timothy Sowords Howard. Among them is a circle of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of other relatives, all of whom carry pieces of her warm, spirited presence within their hearts.

Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration at Bullock Family Funeral Chapel in St. Joseph, Missouri. Visitation will be held on December 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, creating a space for love and reflection. A funeral service honoring Dorothy’s remarkable life will take place the following day, December 19, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM at Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Saint Joseph.
