Obituary

Douglas Eugene Hughes, Sr. transitioned peacefully on March 7, surrounded by his loving family. Doug was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on March 24, 1951, to Laura and Harold Hughes. Doug was a faithful servant of God, a pillar in his community as both a citizen and Deacon, and a loving son, husband, brother, and father. Stalwart in the church, a tennis fanatic and former semipro, and a pickleball and golf novice, Doug enjoyed life’s journey and inspired many along the way. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Harold Hughes, and his brothers, Joe Mays and Thomas Hughes. Cherishing Doug’s memory and carrying on his spirit are his loving wife, Elizabeth Hughes; brothers Mertland Hughes (Barbara) and Marvin Shahid; sister Kae Mays (wife of Joe Mays); children Anthony Ganaway (Angel), Nicole Briscoe, Erroll Wheeler, Terroll Wheeler (Dujuana), and Douglas Hughes, Jr. (Katrina); grandchildren Ashley Briscoe-Reynolds, Shatara Riley, Erroll Wheeler, Jr., Rayna Madox, Jameisha Mosby, Reyna Ganaway, Ellington Hughes, Avia Hughes, and Isla Hughes; great-grandchildren Olympia Reynolds, Eleanor Reynolds, Eiya Wheeler, Emir Wheeler, Elijah Wheeler, Kenny Demo, and Riley Allan; his beloved Uncle Obie Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
