Laura Virgle Hughes
100 St. Joseph – went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2025. She was born May 1, 1924, to Edward and Lorraine Williams. Laura graduated from Bartlett High School and was a lifelong member of St. Francis Baptist Temple, where she served in the Mission, Naomi Circle, Children's Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, and as an usher.

She previously worked as a cook at Horace Mann School, Bullock Family Funeral Chapel and retired from the St. Joseph State Hospital. In addition, she enjoyed doing hair for others at her home and in nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edward, Nelson, Waymen, Eurcle, Marvin, Lamont, and Paul Williams; sisters Charmain, Charlotte, Beverly, Anna Williams, and Bobetta Bundy; sons Joseph R. Mays and Thomas Hughes; and daughter-in-law Martha Shahid.

She is survived by her sons Marvin Shahid, Douglas Hughes (Liz), and Mertland Hughes (Barbara); brother Obie Williams , daughter-in-law Kae Mays; 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Homegoing celebration will be Saturday 11:00, St. Francis Baptist Temple, visitation one hour prior to service. Interment Ashland Cemetery. Bullockffc.com
